It all started when…

Petros Zoe began as a Community Based Organization (CBO) that was founded by Hannah Atai and her late husband, Martin Mugonyi in August 2017. It was a created in response to the lack of support and guidance for the teenage population in the Mugonyi’s community. With no resources to complete their formal education, youth in the Misindye community often find themselves idle. This free time, accompanied with lack of proper parental care creates opportunities for these youth to get involved in drugs, theft and early pregnancy.

After being encouraged by their church, Worship Harvest, to be the change they knew their community needed, Hannah and Martin took a leap of faith and Petros Zoe was born. The first year was dedicated to pouring into the lives of these youth and encouraging them to dream for a better life than what they were living. Hannah and Martin organized several skill training and community service events to teach the youth to value themselves as well as their community around them. They invited the youth into their home each week to share in food and conversation about how to make Uganda a better place to live.

Petros Zoe became a registered NGO in Uganda and 501c3 in the United States in 2019. We have grown immensely from the intimate gatherings in the Mugonyi home, however the heart and mission of transforming the lives of youth has remained the same.
